The Bookkeeping Department is always looking for strong, experienced Calgary bookkeepers to serve our ever-growing list of clients. Please feel free to apply!

Here is what you need to know before applying:

Our bookkeepers are typically contracted. They may work at another job, doing bookkeeping or something else.

As a The Bookkeeping Department bookkeeper you may work in one or several of the following circumstances:

  • In our office (near Macleod Trail and Southland Drive SW, Calgary)
  • At the client’s worksite
  • Remotely, via software connection to client’s computer (e.g. LogMeIn, Team Viewer)

Please note what is NOT listed: Working from your home. The Bookkeeping Department believes it is in the best interest for our clients to keep their sensitive financial materials in a controlled environment.

Whatever the circumstance, you are expected to get yourself to where you are needed. You may choose not to accept an assignment at a particular location, but this may limit the number of hours of work you will do.

The Bookkeeping Department provides exceptional bookkeeping services to a range of clients to have them feel delighted.

How do we do that? By having a team of highly skilled and experienced bookkeepers who use our system to empower business owners in their financial matters. We remove confusion, fear and uncertainty and replace it with clarity, freedom and control.

We are looking for bookkeepers who are available to work at least 10 hours per week with the possibility of increasing to full time as the work becomes available. Daytime or weekend work is available.

What we are looking for is someone who:

  • Is able to demonstrate their comprehensive bookkeeping experience using Sage, QuickBooks or QuickBooks online.
  • Has accounting/bookkeeping education
  • Has a passion for attention to detail
  • Has a proven ability to problem solve

If you have a desire to use your excellent bookkeeping skills and are able to start immediately (or very soon), then click the Next Steps tab.

We have a 4-step process for all applicants.

1.Complete the application form. Click the button below to get to it. You will also be required to send us your resumé, either digitally, via good ol’ snail mail or you can drop it off at our office.

2.After we review your resumé, we may ask you for a telephone interview. We will ask you about your education and experience, work history, goals and ambitions, and availability.

3.We may invite you to our office and do a Bookkeeping Skills and Speed Test. It may be either on Sage or QuickBooks desktop software (your choice). This takes about 2 hours and is scored.

4.And finally, we may invite you to our office for a face-to-face interview. We’ll reveal your score on the Skills & Speed test, and go deeper into understanding your experience and goals. And, of course, we want this to be a two-way interview. We want to know who you are as a person. And you will want to know who we are, and how we do things.

If we decide to hire you or contract your services, then you will be required to undergo extensive training on the The Bookkeeping Department way of doing bookkeeping. You will not be paid for the time you attend this training. It lasts two full days and will happen at our office.
